About James & Dan

Meet the team, or at least two of us. There might be someone else in if we’re really successful and can afford staff AND food.

James

Canterbury wine enthusiast and independent wine shop owner James Child

A shiftless and promiscuous admirer of wines that have minerality, complexity, a sense of terroir and above all, a sucker for a really cool label. James got into wine back in 2001 with Oddbins, rising rapidly to the exalted status of branch manager before sinking into area management. Among his many achievements he is particularly proud of the many people he trained who have gone on to do great things with wine around the world. Deciding that what he really wanted to do was have his own shop where “everything would be awesome”, it took six years to finally turn that dream into reality. In his spare time he indulges his tastes for folk dancing, gypsy jazz, burgundy and gonzo journalism.

Dan

Canterbury wine enthusiast and master sign writer Dan

Prizing intensity of fruit, depth of flavour and exhibiting the devil may care thrill seeking attitude that has left him with only one fully functioning tastebud, Dan has had a long career with wine. Starting with Oddbins sometime in the last century (OK, 1998) he has combined an almost occult sense of what customers want with creative flair to build up a loyal following in Canterbury. Quite the renaissance man, he is also a gifted sign writer (he did the sign over the door), a DJ of no mean skill and a really rubbish skateboarder.
